So.

What got 834 friends in a matter of a week or so, is talked about by everyone at all four high schools, and is reviled by half of Visalia, loved by another half, and not cared about by a third half? (I failed math. Stop whining.)

Visalia Dick.

Here’s the basics.

  • Has been taken down once by Facebook and Tumblr.
  • Has spawned Visalia Chick, Visalia Angel; and, in opposition, Stop Visalia Dick, and Alex Brown.
  • Started a Tumblr site (now down) and a Blogspot page (still up) with 16k+ views at time of publication.
  • Has a decidedly much larger audience and viewership than us — it’s safe to say we’re just a bit jealous.
  • Is setting him/her/itsself up for a huge libel suit (maybe a class-action — does class-action libel exist?)
  • People can be requested. You send V.D. the pertinents, and everything gets put on blast. He doubles as a giant megaphone, basically. We mean that in the best possible way.
  • Writes under the pseudonym “Visalia Dick” — though you knew that

The interesting.

  • The profile lists Eric Renfro as Parent and stated “In a relationship with Tamara Mata,” then changed to “Married to Bianca Rhodes.” Now changed to simply “Married.”
It seems (s)he picks random people to “marry,” though this could be wrong — but the people have thusfar acted like they’ve been caught off-guard, so.. who knows
  • Most of the content seems to be centered around El Diamante students. It is safe to say that the person behind this blog is an El Diamante student, or has graduated from El Diamante. (Judging you right now, El D. Judging you so hard.)

We have reached out to El Diamante for comment, but they have not responded as of the time of this entry. Of course, it seems they’re too busy trying to figure out who Visalia Dick is, clearly, as evidenced by the Facebook posts below.

(A person has asked to have a screenshot of a public post on VD’s wall taken down; we have obliged. The screenshot basically says that a teacher in a class had students write down all the information the kids knew about VD. Later on in the Facebook post, other El D students chimed in and said they were not subjected to this — it seems this may have only been in her class.)

Another student, meanwhile, describes being called into the office at El Diamante by assistant principal Jeff Brown (In this bio that lists precisely none of his responsibilities at El Diamante, he says enjoys hunting.. perhaps hunting bloggers? Should we be worried? We’re going into hiding now.) and “a sheriff”, and being asked to arrange to meet V.D. by both.

(We have taken the screenshot that was here down preemptively as well. It was not captured off of someone’s profile; rather, we used the Facebook Search feature and then hit “Posts by Everyone” — a feature worth checking out!)

  • While being pursued by El Diamante, Visalia Dick is also supposedly under investigation from the lovely folks at the Visalia Police Department. From a message he said someone sent him that he posted on his profile:

I am writing to inform you that the Visalia PD has been notified about
the content of your website/blog. Please immediately discontinue
harassing/slandering students, especially Redwood students since our
campus cop is investigating your project.

See, the problem here is no one gets to take the moral high ground unless they understand the difference between libel and slander, the end.
(Whitney students wouldn’t get this wrong.)

He also seems to be a bit worried about the prospect of the Police Department finding out who he is, too:

  • Of course, it is safe to say WHILE I AM NOT A LAWYER, that since libel is a civil matter the police more than likely cannot touch Visalia Dick, and that while there is a California law on the books since 2009 about cyber-bullying (which some might construe Visalia Dick’s site as being a hotspot for) it applies to school administrators, not the police and gives them the power to suspend or expel students suspected of doing such acts.
  • It is also important to note that the current theories seem to revolve around V.D. not being a student, which means he can get off without any trouble unless his identity is revealed — something we won’t do (and are not out to do) until someone else does — in which case all bets are off, since people will probably form a giant angry mob and rioting will place throughout Visalia.
  • So, to El Diamante and the Visalia PD: remember, if you reveal who he is, you get to deal with riots. Your call.

And the rest of the stuff..

Well, this is not for you.

Of course, if you know anything — text the tipline at (559) 759-6397. And if you’re an El Diamante administrator, you’re welcome to reply to that email we sent any time.
